Girly & Techy at same time
Perfect Example Why Not To Download Music Illegally
If this story doesn’t make you quit, then I don’t know what will!
——————
A single mother has been sued by the RIAA(Recording Industry Association of America) for downloading 24 songs illegally using KaZZA file sharing software.
The price for each song $80,000.00 per track.
And this isn’t the first case or likely the last to be made about downloading music illegally. So if you don’t want to risk it, don’t download illegally!

You have strong drug laws too, but how many millions (tens of millions) of people do drugs – at what cost to the US (and Canada and Mexico) in terms of dollars and death. It\’s like prohibition – there comes a point when a law is not working. As a country, you either changed the law or spend buckets of cash catching, trying and imprisoning those who break it. This is not written in defense of piracy. This is saying it ain\’t going away. It\’s time to rethink the law – and in doing so, it\’s time to find manageable economic models that make sense for creators and consumers.

We have very strict copyright laws amended in our constitution but I feel no one cares which is the reason of this unethical piracy.

Very true! And in most countries it is legal. However it is also stealing from the bands and artist.

Interesting. There are programs, however, that mask your IP when downloading illegaly. She must not have been a pro lol.

This thing should be started in India too, where the music and film industries lose a lot of revenue, atleast the people who can buy should buy songs. There should be some cyber ethics. Piracy is unethical.

I too can see why they wouldn’t want people to download music illegally. It’s so easy to do, the music industry should really work at developing a new model. Musicians are giving away their music for free on MySpace and other websites to build a concert following. That’s a different model. I ‘give away’ articles in my blog and hope the occasional person will be inspired to buy one of my books. That’s a different model. I guess I am calling for more creativity in how the creative arts are delivered!

That is a good point, however I can see why they wouldn’t want people to download music illegally.
And as we both are writers, we know that we don’t like people taking our writing and publishing it as their own without paying us or even giving credit to us. If people can get by with stealing music, then 10 years down the line they might be able to get by on stealing our writing.
As anyone who works in some sort of the arts, we should all stand together and protect the arts we all love and do.

The music industry does not get it. They are sticking their fingers in the dam while the dam is collapsing all around them. I don’t know what the solution is, but it will require creativity not a poorly-aimed sledgehammer.
